Education and Experience
Education with Honors: architectural services – Winchester, Lexington, Arlington and more.
I received my Bachelor of Architecture degree (Highest Honors) in 1994 from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston Massachusetts. At Wentworth, I was awarded membership into the Tau Alpha Phi National Honor Society and was the recipient of the Boston Society of Architects Achievement in Architectural Design Award for notable Academic Achievement.
Architectural Career Track:
Much of my career was at the employment of Building Science Corporation. BSC is a Boston based architecture and building science firm specializing in building technology research and consulting. As a Project Architect, my tasks ranged from architectural design and construction document development, to construction supervision, contractor training and education, performance testing, and building commissioning. Most of the projects were demonstration projects exhibiting exceptional energy efficiency, indoor air quality, durability, comfort, and environmental responsibility, and were located throughout the country. I was also involved in numerous building failure investigations concerning water intrusion, mold growth, occupant health and discomfort. Building failure investigations ranged from single family residential to large commercial and institutional facilities.
I am a registered architect with over 20 years of construction industry experience. As a sole practitioner, I typically work with clients on select custom residential projects. Utilizing my strong Building Science background, I strive to integrate good design practices with good construction practices to provide exceptional design solutions to their design problems. Many of my “New Construction” works as an architect are high performance residential projects. This includes a number of LEED Platinum and Zero Energy Homes, and also includes one of the first Passive Houses built in New England. In addition to new construction, I have also done extensive work in the areas of architectural renovation and building systems re-engineering. These projects have also included “Deep Energy Retrofits” and Zero Energy renovations.
My initial training in the contracting trades coupled with my architectural and building science experience has made me not only an architect with full respect for the integration of design and construction, but an expert in building technology as well. In addition to my design work, I have developed numerous building technology details for national publications, books, and websites exhibiting sustainable knowledge.
